  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • Black food coloring (to preference)
  • Candy corn (for the hat tips)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter with granulated and brown sugars until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time followed by vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined; avoid overmixing.
  6. Scoop tablespoons of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them about two inches apart.
  7. Bake for about 10 minutes until edges are firm but centers remain soft. Cool on wire racks before frosting.
  8. Frost each cookie and top with candy corn to create witch hats.
