Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 sheet chilled puff pastry (about 17 oz)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for sautéing)
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Black olives (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, drizzle olive oil and sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until translucent. Let cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, ketchup, and the cooled onion-garlic mixture. Season with salt and pepper, mixing until just combined.
  4. Shape the mixture into a loaf on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Roll out the chilled puff pastry on a floured surface. Cut strips from it and wrap them around the meatloaf to resemble mummy bandages, leaving gaps for eyes.
  6. Bake for about 45 minutes or until cooked through (internal temperature reaches 160°F / 70°C). Decorate with black olive slices for eyes before serving.
